Speaker Series: Doug Buege
*Northern Oconto County’s Butterflies & Habitats Where They Fly!
As the second installment in its Speaker Series, the Lakes Country Public Library welcomes Douglas Buege. Douglas, who has a PhD in philosophy, has been teaching in Madison since 1989. In 2008, he published If a Tree Falls, Rediscovering the American Chestnut Tree. His current pastime is creating original YouTube videos about Wisconsin butterflies.
As president of the Southern Wisconsin Butterfly Association (naba.org/chapters/swab) since 2013, Douglas leads and annual Northern Oconto butterfly count that just completed its 11th year. He enjoys sharing his love for these incredible creatures.
Douglas has been a fixture in northern Oconto County his whole life, spending summers with his grandparents on the 120-acre farm they purchased with cash in 1963. He says those summers were the best of this childhood. As a college student he became interested in plants, a passion which continues to fuel his work on the family farm where he “grows just about all the kinds of fruit he can keep alive.”
